Diving into a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Poop in a Mission to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have found plenty of entertaining creations from small studios. But, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game includes a protagonist that is literally a piece of poop attempting to make its way to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

Player controls is simple: just use a single jump button. Throughout numerous stages, you'll face boss fights and unlock a store to purchase skins for your poop character.

Execute your actions carefully, as a mistake means restarting the level. Leap off air pockets to launch yourself higher, navigate crumbling surfaces, and activate triggers to unlock hidden paths. Earn coins and use them on more difficult game content in which the action ramps up.

Graphically, the demo features neon environments and catchy background music. The retro visual style with shifting basic polygons may remind fans of beloved games like Earthbound.

Although tough to think of other games where you are a dung character, gaming often featured toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make explosives from character excrement. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, this theme shows up extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already earned notable awards, like being named best at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is ready currently on Steam, with the final release scheduled to debut on PC this November.
